Marty’s lively talks usually draw from her knowledge of remarkable women in history whom she has written about. Anecdotes and enactments bring her subjects to life. She has addressed conferences of teachers, librarians, and reading associations, as well as groups such as the AAUW, League of Women Voters, Rotary clubs, NOW, American Businesswomen, Church Fellowships, etc. She was featured at the 150th Anniversary of the first Women’s Rights Convention, and she has spoken at the Women’s Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls, New York, and the Susan B. Anthony house in Rochester. She has recorded commentaries for Public Radio, and she appears on the Arts and Entertainment Channel Biography of Steve Wozniak.

Award-winning educator Marty is the Senior Executive Editor of College Teaching, an international journal published in Washington, D.C. She is a Carnegie Scholar, and she directs the Teaching and Learning Center at San Jose City College. She has won many teaching awards, and her textbooks and DVDs are used at colleges and universities across the U.S. and abroad.

Bicycling across Spain She and her family bicycled 750 miles across Spain on the historic Camino de Santiago. She tells fascinating tales about the trail and shows pictures of this ancient route and its modern pilgrims.

“Low Bridge, Everybody Down!” Marty has written about the Erie Canal and literally gotten her feet wet in it. She grew up in Rochester, New York, America’s first boom town thanks to the Canal. She’s cruised the Erie many times. She shows stunning photos of the landscape, tells fascinating stories about the building of the canal, and she performs songs of the era. |
