MARTHA KENDALL frequently speaks about her writing in programs that incorporate inspiration, humor, and music.


  She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Michigan with a double major in English and Spanish. She holds a Master’s degree in English from Stanford University and a Master’s in Social Science from San Jose State.     


  A Carnegie Scholar, Martha has influenced teaching and learning around the world. She has spoken at conferences from Boston to Buenos Aires. Martha served as Senior Executive Editor of the international journal College Teaching for many years. Her textbooks and DVD series called The Real Thing are used by thousands of students in the U.S., Europe, Canada, the Middle East and China.


  At San Jose City College, she won "Best Teacher" awards from multiple student groups. She served as Chair of the English Department, Coordinator of the Teaching and Learning Center, and Dean of Language Arts. She founded the college's annual Women's History Celebration. 


  Martha applies the same dedication and enthusiasm to her musicianship as she does to teaching and writing. She sings and plays bass, cello, guitar, fiddle, banjo, and even penny whistle! 


  A native of Rochester, New York, Martha now lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California with her husband, Joe Weed.
